Geographic Information System is a scientific and modern system that supports the statistical departments in KRSO to represent the important indicators as the result of statistical projects on the maps. GIS department prepares the boundaries of the Kurdistan region by governorates, districts, sub-districts and villages in the form of shape files. In the cases of any changes in these boundaries it relies on the decisions of the Ministry of Interior of Kurdistan region.

GIS department in KRSO is the official source for preparing the boundary map for administrative divisions, independent administrations, rivers, dams and topography of the Kurdistan region.
