On the invitation of the committee of preparing the recommendations for the collection of statistical data for refugees and displacement, the president of the KRSO participated in the first meeting of the second stage that was held in Switzerland for two days between 28-29/8/2018.
This meeting is the continuation of three other meetings held in 2016 and 2017. The president of KRSO participated in two of them as reprehensive of Kurdistan Region and Iraq, where he revealed the experience of the KRSO in collecting of statistical data. Then there was a detailed discussion on unifying the concepts and methodology of statistical work at the international level.
After preparation of the technical report, the report was submitted to the UN Commission for Statistics to be approved. Then it was approved by the member states at the annual meeting of the commission in March 2018. It is worth to mention that Norway statistical office, JIPS organizations, UNHCR organization co-chair this committee that has 25 members including Kurdistan region of Iraq.
It is planned to have the second meeting to be held before the end of this year at the aim to finalize the proposal and submit it to the UN Commission for Statistics to be approved and implemented at the international level.
