Under supervision of World Bank (WB) and attendance of technical committee of poverty reduction, the first workshop on new strategy of poverty reduction in Iraq was held in Jordan between Jun 12 - 16, 2016.
The workshop focused on the first strategy on poverty reduction that was approved in 2009 and executed later, as well as the practical level of this was evaluated in order to be used in making the new strategy based on current Iraq’s situation. Also, the president of Kurdistan region statistics office (KRSO) provided a presentation on poverty level in Kurdistan region in 2014 that has been worked on with cooperation of Word Bank. In his presentation it was observed that the poverty rate rose by 9% in 2014 comparing to 3.5% in 2012 and reached 12.5%. Four more workshops are supposed to be organized till the end of this year to prepare the draft of the new strategy on poverty reduction and providing to higher committee seeking its approval.
